Education is an area that inspires a passionate following. We connect with student organizations to tell more students about opportunities to work in the space and make a difference.
The Youth Advocacy Law Association is a group for Fordham Law students interested in exploring careers that are committed to advocating for children and juveniles involved in the Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice, and Public Education systems. YouthLaw seeks to increase understanding of legal practice on behalf of young people, and to raise awareness of important policies and issues affecting youth, especially youth from underserved communities. YouthLaw collaborates with leaders in the field, organizes discussions and networking, and encourages academic and service-oriented youth advocacy.

Lincoln Square Neighborhood Children’s Law Project (LSNCLP) teaches concepts of law, citizenship, and literacy to children in an after-school program in the Amsterdam Houses, a public housing project one block from the Law School. Children help write and then participate in a mock trial at the Law School as the culminating event.
Mentoring Youth Through Legal Education (M.Y.L.E.) partners with Legal Outreach. As a member of M.Y.L.E. you work as a coach for legal outreach. You are partnered with one to two high school students and help them prepare to debate constitutional issues. Legal Outreach prepares urban youth from underserved communities in New York City to compete at high academic levels by using intensive legal and educational programs as tools for fostering vision, developing skills, enhancing confidence, and facilitating the pursuit of higher education. We use law to attract junior high school students to academic programs that inspire and motivate them to strive for academic success. From the 8th through 12th grades, students work after school, on weekends, and during summers to build the skills and confidence they need to achieve their goals. Once in college, students who wish to pursue law school are eligible to participate in our College to Law School Pipeline Diversity Program.
Center for Public Research and Leadership (Columbia Law School)
The mission of the Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) is to revitalize public education while reinventing professional education. CPRL conducts rigorous coursework, skills training, and research and consulting projects to ready talented graduate students for challenging twenty-first century careers enhancing the education sector’s capacity to improve the outcomes and life chances of all children. High School Law Institute (NYU Law School)
We work with high school students and teach them about the law. The NYU High School Law Institute (“HSLI”) is a student-run organization that serves talented and motivated high school students throughout New York City. We offer free, yearlong academic programming in constitutional law, criminal law, mock trial, and moot court on Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM.
The Suspension Representation Project (SRP) is an advocacy group that trains law students to represent public school students in superintendent's suspension hearings and help safeguard their right to education. This project was created in response to the tremendous need to increase access to quality representation for low-income students and parents facing suspension hearings.
